Why should this be considered?
Well, I don’t know whether this is one of the extensions we’re not allowed to ask about, however unless there’s an easier alternative for enabling multilingual accessibility for Flarum-based sites, I would wonder why this hasn’t already been implemented…(?)
Of course users could simply use the Google browser since it seems to arbitrarily—partially translate foreign languages for the user, although in my experience it is quite consistently unreliable and requires a fair amount of effort in some cases.
Though I’m assuming the Ian M Translate extension would be far more reliable since it’s specifically designed for Flarum sites….right?
Alas if for whatever reason Ian M’s Translate extension is out of the question, and were there no easily accessible alternatives, or otherwise compelling argument against enabling multilingual capabilities, then quite frankly I would be curious as to the rationale, because inhibiting multilingual accessibility would be entirely counterproductive for any social media platform which intends to serve users of multiple languages.
If English language users aren’t able to easily access Chinese language Flarum-based sites, and Chinese language users aren’t able to easily access Dutch language Flarum-based sites, and Dutch language users aren’t easily able to access Arabic language Flarum-based sites, and so forth, obviously this would severely inhibit overall accessibility as it inherently restricts people to forums that serve languages they are familiar with.
Nevertheless, if Ian M’s Translate extension is off limits here, so be it.
The most important thing is not the extension itself but the optional multilingual accessibility of Flarum-based forums.
As such I already have the basic codes & step by step instructions required for creating a simple translation extension for Flarum-based forums, which integrates Google’s language translation services.
However, unless mistaken, a proper computer is necessary to create extensions(?)… and I only have an old Android.
If anyone else was willing to have a crack at it, I would be very happy to share the Google Translation extension. My only condition is that the extension must be made freely available for all Flarum-based websites to optionally utilize.
