Slug Driver?

I’ve searched Flarum forums and there’s lots of discussion about Slug Drivers but since “everybody” already knows this there’s no discussion that I could find that explains what a Slug Driver is. I chose “default” setting in the configuration but i’m flying blind here.

laffin_boy I assume you mean the slug driver option in the “Basics” tab in your Administration. In that case, this post explains it in more detail, but basically:

The setting determines how discussion URLs are generated. Both of the built-in drivers use the discussion ID and add a user-friendly “slug” part for SEO purpose.

In short, the difference between the two is that default (or empty) generates a slug using only alpha-numerical characters (“ASCII”) by transliterating non-ASCII characters to ASCII equivalents. utf8 only strips spaces to create a slug while keeping most special characters. Those characters might be displayed in their encoded form by some browsers.

In other words, if you for example select “default” for users, then you can find a specific user under https://yourforum.freeflarum.com/u/<username>, e. g.: https://yourforum.freeflarum.com/u/admin, if you choose “id”, then the username is replaced with the numeric ID of that user, e. g.: https://yourforum.freeflarum.com/u/123.

I’d say you don’t have to worry about this, unless you have issues with SEO or people bruteforcing your user list.
